I still remember the day my son Jimmy called me to announce I would be a grandpa. I was so excited. And my wife, who knew for a few weeks before me was wise enough to suggest to Jim that he call me when he did. I was having one of those really bad days at my old bank(which was all I had for about a year before I left) and the news brightened my day.
Then, sitting at my new job, only there for like 60 days, the call came, Sara was in labor. My new boss said hit the road and take all the time you need and off we went. We met Calvin Tyler Talbot on September 7, 2012, one day after his birth. We stayed about 4 or 5 days and then Wendy came back to spend 6 weeks with my N.C. family helping Sara transition back to work. I came again in November for a long weekend visit and then Wendy and I came back in December, April, July and now for the celebration! Wendy made another trip at Mardi Gras and my daughter Elizabeth came at New Year's. We almost need a North Carolina second home!
Today being his birthday, we arrived at the house early bearing presents and then ran errands with our little man including lunch. The big #1 birthday party is tomorrow; we all can't wait! I've been so happy to watch our little man grow up, thanks in large part to my son & daughter-in-law who have faithfully Skyped with us all year. These face to face meetings are special.
In my prior post I shared the picture of my first meeting with Calvin and then how he looks these days. Here is one today of the first of many new birthday presents:
