No "last chance" Mass here in Greensboro

As our vacation begins in earnest now that the long drive from Louisiana to North Carolina is over, my wife and I realized that the only option available to us for Sunday Mass would be a 7 PM Sunday celebration.  We've been to this church before, Our Lady of Grace, so we knew the lay of the land.  I do not think we ever, while vacationing and traveling, have had to make the last Mass of a Sunday evening.

I hate to make assumptions(insert joke here) but I sort of figured it would be a lightly attended affair, no music, probably a 45 minute "last chance" Mass.  I am more than pleased to say, no way!  The Mass was beautifully celebrated, even though the presiding Priest had no lector and very late arriving altar servers.  But the Mass was beautifully celebrated, Novus Ordo style, the homily worthy of breaking open God's word and moving people to action, and the singing was strong.  The hymns were beautiful and Catholic, the organ was beautifully played and as I said, everyone sang!

This parish also was in the first days of an amazing evangelization effort for the youth of the parish called Totus Tuus, Latin for Totally Yours.  It sounds like a wonderful program although I am not familiar with this specific youth ministry.

Every parish, with some exceptions, has a Sunday evening Mass.  I would pray that every parish that does so examine if that last Mass of Sunday is well celebrated with full active participation!

And for now, off to bed, because in the morning the babysitting begins!
