Ansel Augustine, a New Orleanian who has led the archdiocese’s Young Adult Ministry Office, has been named director of the archdiocese’s Office of Black Catholic Ministry. He started his new job this month.
Augustine, a native of New Orleans 6th Ward, earned a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University and a master of pastoral studies degree from the Loyola Institute of Ministry.
In his new job, Augustine is the link between the archdiocese and the city's Catholic African Americans.
“New Orleans is lucky to have him,” said Tom Ryan, the institute’s director, who described Augustine as “a good choice” for the office.
After earning his master’s degree, Augustine went to work with young people at St. Peter Claver Church.
He sits on the board of the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry and is a former board member of the National Young Adult Ministry Association.
Augustine is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianapolis in November.
