For our recessional today at Mass we sang God Bless America. For me it felt so wrong. In this week where the secular world, cheered on by the media in this country, celebrated the Supreme Court rulings, made a hero out of a Texas Senator whose only goal was for little babies to continue to be killed, even after 20 weeks, and people of faith were told they don't count, we dare sing God Bless America.
The truth is that God will continue to bless us because despite our shortfalls and sinfulness He always draws close to us and seeks us most especially when we are lost. Make no mistake, God never gives up on us even though we give up on Him.
As the words were sung, God Bless America, I truly wondered when will America Bless God again?
As sincere as I am in these thoughts, this is not a post of no hope. God won, is winning and will always win, especially when all this secularism ceases to exist. God wins and the efforts of His faithful will never be forgotten. And neither will the efforts of those, who no matter how late they come to the game, convert and turn away from sin and return to Him with a contrite heart.
America must become a nation where:
Abortion no longer exists and all babies are welcomed by both their mother and father...
Sex is understood as something so much more special than the casual recreational sport it has become...
Children not wanted by their families always have a path to adoption by families who will love and protect them as their own...
Meaningful laws, not just feel good legislation, keeps our children safe from gun violence...
The immigrant is seen as a human being while laws that really keep a nation safe don't unfairly discriminate against the immigrant and his/her family...
War is always just war...
God and Jesus Christ can be mentioned in our schools...
Marriage follow natural law; one man & one woman, period...
Death penalty never be used for revenge or for an "eye for an eye"
Religious denominations truly are allowed to exercise religious liberty...
We can say Merry Christmas or Happy Easter anywhere and everywhere...
Yep, God Bless America but please, America, Bless God!
