Leaving work Friday afternoon I expected a busy weekend. After all, I was signed up to preside at Friday evening's Benediction closing out our day long activity of First Friday devotions, followed by assisting as Deacon of the Gospel for our First Holy Communion and then two regularly scheduled Masses on Sunday. Since the weekend promised to be dry; a rare event lately, and unusually cool, I was o.k. with maybe several hours of grass cutting, riding high above the big orange Kubota tractor.
Benediction, I had hoped, would be followed by perhaps a dinner date with my wife. So Benediction went well, a beautiful proper devotion attended, unfortunately, by a rather smaller that usual number of the faithful. Then, I was to discover, no dinner date for me. The wife was feeling poorly and begged off, so I brought dinner home. She was indeed sick, running a very high fever. I immediately knew what this could be due to a previous incident but she insisted she would be just fine. In fact, she had a very restful night sleeping and assured me all was great as I left early on a Saturday morning to prepare for MHT's First Holy Communion. It is quite a joy to be present at this event as I described in more detail in an earlier post. Yet, when I arrived home, hopeful to spend 4-5 hours on that Kubota making the tall grass go away, it was not meant to be. Wendy once again was suffering from a high fever and I knew this indeed had something to do with a kidney issue she had 10 days past. Instead of the grass being cut or Wendy working in the garden, I was on my way to the ER. Indeed, Wendy was diagnosed with both a pesky kidney stone and a wicked kidney infection. Because of the fever, she was admitted and remains there still today as she has not passed that doggone stone.
In her amazing graciousness, Wendy insisted that I fulfill my 9 and 11 a.m. Mass schedule which included a May Crowning in honor of the Blessed Mary. I did indeed make these masses and still managed to be present at the hospital at the right moment when the doctor came in and laid out a plan. Unfortunately that plan includes possible intervention if the stone does not move today or tonight. So, night #2 is a done deal for my bride.
In the morning we will be updated on her progress and possible procedures will be performed to give her relief. I spent several hours with her today, peaceful because she mostly sleeps. And tonight, after watching Benediction on EWTN, I'm changing clothes once again to go visit my girl. A priest friend called and offered to come by and anoint her; she thought that was a great idea. And so many people, now aware of her ailment, have offered prayers.
Yep, this has been a busy weekend; more than I bargained for however. For now, I'll just be satisfied with her complete recovery! Your prayers are requested and appreciated!
