Just another Tuesday where you live? Mardi Gras Day where I live!

It's Tuesday where most of you live but it's Fat Tuesday where I live!  Happy Mardi Gras!!

The dire weather predictions were not quite 100% accurate and all of today's Mardi Gras parades in the New Orleans area rolled.  As I sit at home and write this, the hundreds of truck floats in two Mardi Gras parades are still on the streets of New Orleans.  From early this morning until a few hours from now, all of the Greater New Orleans area has "shut down"as marching clubs and parades have filled the streets of New Orleans, Metairie, Gretna, Covington, Lacombe and destinations to our west in the heart of Cajun country.  The French Quarter is packed but more importantly thousands of carports, driveways and dining rooms across south Louisiana are meeting and eating and celebrating the "true"meaning of Mardi Gras; the true meaning of Carnival!

Tonight the two grand Mardi Gras balls of Rex and Comus will dine and dance and meet before midnight to bid farewell to Mardi Gras 2013 and then in an act of pure respect to the Catholic culture of the area and the real meaning of Mardi Gras, the streets will be swept clean at the strile of midnight and the call goes out to all for repentenance and ashes.

It's just Tuesday where you live and not so here.  But whether you live there or here, we all are readying and preparing for Ash Wednesday and Lent.  May this season of Lent be particularly efficacious and spiritual for one and all!
