We in the Archdiocese of New Orleans learned of the death yesterday of one of our own active Priests: Fr. Michael Nguyen, Pastor of Resurrection Parish in New Orleans East. I never met him personally but was certainly aware of this pastoral man who helped his parish and an entire community for that matter, come back from Katrina.
It appears, from early reports, that the good Priest suffered a stroke and passed away Friday. Undoubtedly, he leaves a shocked and saddened parish community and all who loved him.
Ironically, Fr. Nguyen was a bit of a TV celebrity recently because of a bizarre Christmas Eve incident involving the theft of his golf cart. A story ran on local New Orleans TV about the theft, which included a prized Louisville slugger bat, but then a second story ran when a University of Louisville fan, in town for the Sugar Bowl a few weeks back, had a special bat made and delivered to Fr. Nguyen.
I will include the stories below but for now please join me in praying for the repose of the soul of Fr. Michael Nguyen, a good and faithful servant!
