Our 2012 class, now known as the newest Deacons in the Archdiocese, are busy settling in to the relaity of their ordination. More than a few of our newest Deacons have already vested for Mass, perhaps helped with a wake or a funeral and maybe even preached their first homily. Still others may have taken a short amount of personal time to reflect on their new status as an ordained minister in service to God and as His Holy Church!
Tonight these men are dutifully taking a test to conclude several months of a spirituality component necessary for them to move forward. Just in the past week or so they received their grades relative to the course of theology studies they take at our Archdiocesan Seminary.
Once candidates they will go on to take 3 more years of courses, lectures and seminars geared toward being a well formed Deacon. In the months ahead they will begin something called clinical pastoral training where they will actually minister and observe in prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, homeless shelters but to name a few examples. Centered around these lived experiences will be lectures and debriefs around several well know ministries of charity.
It's a long haul from initially answering the call that you may detect the stirrings of God's call to inquiry, aspirancy, candidacy and eventually Holy Orders.
Continue to pray for the men discerning this sacred and oh so necessary vocation. And pray to for priestly vocations. We need a healthy increase in both!!
