NEW ORLEANS -- Former Saints safety Steve Gleason has been released from the hospital and is feeling better, according to a Team Gleason spokeswoman.
Gleason was transported from the Superdome to the hospital after experiencing flu-like symptoms during the Saints Monday Night Football game. Those symptoms can be intensified for ALS patients like Gleason.
Gleason stayed at the hospital overnight before he was released Tuesday afternoon.
Steve and Michel are incredibly grateful to friends, family, Ochsner, the Saints, and the public for their continued love and support," read a statement from Team Gleason.
The free-spirited former player is a beloved figure in New Orleans. He blocked a punt that was returned for a touchdown in the 2006 re-opening of the Superdome a year after Hurricane Katrina hit.
