Falling back and taking a nap and planning ahead

With this November Sunday our first day since we all fell back last night(you did remember to do this, right?) how did it go for you?  It is often said this is a difficult day for many even though we all should have received that wonderful hour of sleep back from the one we lost in the spring.  With darkness coming on closer to the 5 o'clock hour in these parts, coupled with a rainy start of this day, I was exhausted.  In fact, by 2:30 I was sound asleep.  It was not an uneventful day as I arrived at MHT parish for 6:30 this morning(in the daylight) to assist a visiting Priest for both the 7 and 9 Masses.  These early Masses were a little more full than normal.  After Mass I attended a local boy scout troop fundraiser and finalized some wedding preparation paperwork.  It was a busy day that came crashing down mid-afternoon with a nice long 4 hour nap. And that never happens for me; never!

I do love this time of year including the whole falling back process.  It's hard for people to believe but when we fall back, we arrive at where the clock, and the light & darkness, is supposed to be.  It is that spring forward thing that artificially messes with time.  I keep holding out hope for cooler, fall like weather, as we have only really had 1 good week with the good air feel.  With the approaching holidays and the excitement of the second half of football activitiy, including bowl games and playoffs, this is the best time of year.

My current plans call for a short but important diversion soon as I am booked to fly to North Carolina for a quick 48 hour visit with my #1 grandson.  I plan on being in the Piedmont next Saturday thru Monday so I am anticipating a great visit.  Outside of a business trip last March to Houston, this will be the first time I've traveled by myself for pleasure in over 10 years.

Before I go on this Sunday evening I do recognize that we are just 50 or so hours away from learning the results of the national election.  I've purposely not opined about this because quite frankly, I don't believe my opinion will influence you one way or the other.  Since the blog so often is directed to my brother and sister Catholics I can tell you that I am quite disappointed in the overall political discourse and am quite shocked at the number of Catholics who feel the need to proclaim who among is and is not going to hell depending on our vote.  I am equally disappointed and shocked at the number of Catholics who so boldly proclaim that thier religion and faith life must be divorced from thier vote.  So much so that I have seen many a Catholic proclaim that the teachings of the Church don't matter.  That's so wrong as is the other side damning anyone to hell.  Think about your words and actions and inform yourself and sincerely take this to prayer.

I'm glad, in the week ahead, that I have ministry responsibilities and a trip to plan to see Calvin.  And I'm glad we are going to enjoy standard time and cool weather.  Go make it a great week!
