Assumption Church in Braithwaite: devastating flood waters

This is the Assumption Catholic Church in the rural community of Braithwaite in Plaquemine Parish.  This area, located on the eastbank of the Mississippi River below St. Bernard Parish never received flooding waters during Hurricane Katrina and previous storms.  A levee failure, not to be confused with the type of levee failures New Orleans had in Katrina, forced water between marshes and lakes up to the Mississippi River levee on the other side.

This is the only church to be so completely devastated throughout the archdiocese although water was reported in other churches in Plaquemines Parish as well as Laplace, La and Mandeville and Madisonville, La on the Northshore.

God will provide!!
