From a previous post readers will know that last week was our back to school week. I said it then and I'll say it again; it's too early to roll up summer and send our kids back to school. In the week that was I had to get used to the school zones and the big yellow school buses lumbering up and down these rural parish roads. Since I don't have to deal with the back to school thing on a personal level I pretty much miss out on the school supply trips and school uniform trips. The only way I have to measure this back to school thing is the zones and buses mentioned above. Until this Sunday. Why Sunday? You could tell something was different just by attending Mass today. For the past few weeks it was apparent that many families might have been on vacation. Well this Sunday, there back. Not since late May can I honestly say all the morning Masses were this well attended. And in attendance were plenty of families with school age children ranging from our elementary students through high school. As part of our family traditions at Most Holy Trinity we even broke out the coffee and donut socials after the two early morning Masses as a way of saying welcome back families!
Soon we will see another uptick in Mass attendance when our PSR (or CCD) program resumes after Labor Day. At least we are smart enough to start after Labor Day. Since many of our younger programs are conducted on Sunday mornings we have a larger than normal turnout for our 9 a.m. Mass during PSR season.
So these last few days and the next few weeks will serve as a reminder that we truly are transitioning to the end of summer and the beginning of better days ahead; fall weather, football season, school traditions and more families back at Mass!
