All that is known for sure about Dismas was that he was the good thief crucified with Jesus Christ on Calvary. All other legend or lore is not historically rooted. One such legend is that Dismas was crucified to Jesus' right hand, and artists' depictions of the crucifixion scene often have Jesus' head tilted in that direction for that reason.
A large portion of the cross of the Good Thief is preserved at Rome in the altar of the Chapel of the Relics at Santa Croce in Gerusalemme.
Also known as Dysmas, Dimas, the Good Thief, the Repentant Thief, Rakh.
