Our dog Chipper

After some 16 years living with and among us, our Jack Russell Chipper has gone away.  In the end, there was just too much pain and it was time.  For all these years he was a faithful dog, entering our lives when we were still new to life on the Nortshore and Elizabeth was but a second or third grader.  He loved living on our 10 acres, ran the whole 10 throughout his life, swan in the ponds, got under the horses feet, lived both inside and outside, happy and content.

But dogs grow old; and sometimes in the old age there is a certain dignity or nobility that confirms their younger personality.

This dog always reminded me of the dog Skip in the movie aptly titled My Dog Skip.  I used to call Chipper sometimes My Dog Chip.

This scene is not all that unlike our own reality these last few weeks:

We buried Chipper under our oak tree; but he lays buried in our heart!
