Well it was not quite as masterful as the destruction of the Giants a week ago but the New Orleans Saints took out the Detroit Lions 31-17 to open up a two game lead in the NFC South. The Saints never trailed tonight thanks to the usual suspects: Brees, Graham, Sproles, along with Meachem, Moore and Ingram. Thank goodness the offense remained in control, even through a rough spot or two because the defense got torched from time to time. But this is not untypical of a Greg Williams defense, bend but don't break. Sometimes it seems like bend a lot. Again the defense gave up too many big pass completions and Detroit seemed to make a bunch of first downs in just one or two plays. But an interception, a blocked field goal and a slew of stupid personal foul and push off penalties by an undisciplined Lion team and it all worked out in the end.
Here is what is important: Saints are 9-3, first place in the South by two over Atlanta(and we own the tie-breaker too) and we are keeping pace 1 game behind SF in the conference. If the Saints are going to remain a possible Super Bowl contender they have to keep winning, improve the defense and let Drew be Drew.
Overall, since the Super Bowl victory the Saints are 20-9; pretty good. Those mind boggling losses last year and the Rams game this year concern me; especially when we see what Green Bay is doing post Super Bowl. Simply, they just refuse to lose. We need that mentality. The only thing keeping the Saints from going back to the top is the Saints.
So up next is Tennessee and they have a running back like that Ram back that had a field day. Time to man up and win that game!
