A beautiful All Souls Day Liturgy

As I enter my 10th month of service at Most Holy Trinity Parish I experienced one of our beautiful traditions.  A special Mass of Bereavement is held during the evening hours of All Souls and the families who lost loved ones this past year are invited to be present to remember their beloved dead.  After the Gospel and homily, which tonight was a beautiful explanation of purgatory, each deceased family member is remembered by name.  As their names are read, a family member comes forward and places a beautiful rose near the altar.  It is beautiful, emotional, spiritual and perfectly in line with our Catholic teaching.

All too often All Souls Day is dwarfed by the Solemnity of All Saints Day.  Because of this Catholics all too often celebrate the dead on All Saints Day.  This should be done on All Souls Day, although everyone of us indeed wants to be a Saint!

After Mass, the families who have experienced death in the past year, are able to gather and enjoy each others company, some good food and remember their loved ones.

Well done Most Holy Trinity; what a beautiful parish and I am thankful for my assignment and time at MHT!
