Another look at the Permanent Diaconate

I was glancing at some of my favorite blogs this afternoon and over at the Deacon's Bench I saw this riveting article about the Permanent Deacon.  Catholic World Report takes a hard look at those dioceses in the United States that are both deacon rich and deacon poor.  The commentary throughout the article is what amazes me.  As a Permanent Deacon I always shudder at the use of priest shortage and Permanent Deacon in the same sentence.  Because of fullness of orders and respecting the unique charism of the orders, the Permanent Deacon is needed even where there is no shortage of Priests or even Seminarians.  But let me allow you to read this fine article:

And, let's use this read as a great opportunity to pray for vocations!
