There is nothing more exciting, more Louisiana, than a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium, as 92,000 faithful cheer on the LSU Fighting Tigers. Tiger Stadium is iconic and has the high honor of being home base for a football powerhouse that has won 2 national championships in the past 8 and a half years.
This year the LSU football team has been strongly considered as national championship material and currently enjoys the rank of #1 in the nation. Today, we did not have Saturday night in Tiger Town, no, it was breakfast with the Tigers. A starting time of 11 something in the morning did not prevent another sellout crowd as they witnessed the Tigers destroy Kentucky 35-7, despite LSU not playing it's sharpest offense. And it also marked the return of LSU QB Jordan Jefferson who did indeed score a touchdown in today's game. Interestingly, there was a mixed reaction, to be polite, when he entered the game. Those who choose to boo may have been defending Jarrett Lee as much as making a statement to Jefferson. In the end, LSU wins and they are off to a 5-0 start.
Will LSU make a run for the national championship. The answer clearly is we do not know but they certainly could. But the SEC is tough; beyond tough. LSU has Florida next and still has a tough road game in Alabama. And if that ain't enough you still have to play the likes of Auburn and Arkansas.
The LSU Tigers are a proud tradition in our great state and most Louisianans love them. Some don't; how unfortunate and silly. One thing for sure, especially over the past dozen or so years, LSU has brought great joy to their football fans. Even in the past few years when not in the running for a national championship, it is winning seasons and usually, bowl victories.
I'll keep watching LSU this football season, breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Geaux Tigers; keep making us proud!
