Preparing for the translations of the Mass

Is your parish getting ready for the new translations of the Mass; coming to us all on November 27th?  At Most Holy Trinity we are offering a six week course called a Biblical Walk Through The Mass by Dr. Edward Sri.  In addition to presenting each of the changes in the words and responses of the Mass, the class gives the participants a look at the history and Scriptural basis for each part of the Mass.

Over the past two weeks, on Tuesday nights, a class of about 40 individuals have attended and participated in the initial presentations.  We spent a great deal of time in week one focusing on the background of the Mass and the reasons for the new changes in the translation.  Last night, week two, brought a detailed explanation of each of the parts of the introductory rites: the entrance procession, the sign of the cross, the greeting, the confetior, the gloria and the opening prayer(also called the collect).  Using Dr. Sri's book and accompanying workbook we explored numerous Scripture verses and paragraphs of the Catechism to understand the what and why of each part as well as the richer depth of the new translation.

Next week we will explore the Liturgy of the Word and review the readings from Scripture, 1st reading, responsorial psalm, 2nd reading, Alleluia verse, Gospel, the homily as well as the Creed and the Prayers of the Faithful.

Even if your parish is not offering special classes or sessions dedicated to the new translations coming soon, please avail yourself by looking at the USCCB website or just google new Mass translations.
