It was an unexpected moment and a simple prayer. Spending my mid-week evening some 60 miles from home with about 10 brother Deacons I was tired; practically exhausted. I was looking forward to the discussions about various upcoming homilies but I was drained from ongoing work issues and consistent pain from rheumatoid arthritis. It was time to begin with prayer. And my brother Deacon begin to prayer with these simple yet profound words: Thank-you God for another day to worship You; to give You praise.
That's it! Immediately I got lost in those words. Lately I've been struggling through days, maybe even considering them a burden. But this is what each and every day is: another chance to worship God, another chance to thank Him and give Him praise. Another day to be happy with Him in this life, even when work stinks, or the knees hurt, or we are experiencing our own personal struggles, pains and heartaches.
We live on this side of life to prepare ourselves for the other side of life. I want to be happy with God here so to be happy with Him in Heaven forever; eternally.
That prayer helped me endured what became a very long night, thanks to road construction, and another challenging day at work that did result in some very good things happening.
If I can focus; if I can stay in the moment; everyday will present itself as this new opportunity to give God the praise, worship and honor due Him and Him alone!
A simple prayer has truly given me focus!
