Every first Friday since arriving at Most Holy Trinity I make my way to the Church and prepare Benediction for the assembled. I love first Friday. Something so powerful about being in front of the Eucharistic Lord and seeing Him in the monstrance on the altar. I love that moment when I am blessed to take the monstrance in my covered hands and execute the motions of Jesus' blessing to the people.
Last month it was a Lenten first Friday. Benediction was compressed, if you will, as we also completed Stations of the Cross. On this Easter season first Friday, and less than one week removed from Divine Mercy Sunday, we prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the Litany of the Sacred Heart and the Divine Praises. All of this is directed worship to Him, Jesus Christ, in the most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.
On this night I had already glanced the evening reading from the Liturgy of the Hours. In the reading from Hebrews, the author talks about Jesus being obedient to the Father, to the point of perfection, perfection that leads us to eternal life.
There He is, Jesus, in the monstrance, perfected by the transubstantiation and power of the Holy Spirit, for all to worship. And by being Eucharistic people, by worshipping Him in the Blessed Sacrament, and receiving Him worthily in Holy Communion, we too may have eternal life.
I'm already looking forward to June. I'm so happy that this committment has allowed the family at Most Holy Trinity to worship Jesus in Adoration and Benediction every first Friday.
Jesus Christ is Lord, alleluia!
