Confession and Confirmation

In a few nights our parish will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation for 26 young adults. In our diocese we confirm in the 11th grade. This is one of our largest groups in quite some time. For the past few months they have been preparing under the direction of their teacher, Maruchi Palomo. Just a few weeks ago the group had an amazing retreat weekend.

Among the many things they have been doing to prepare for the sacrament they carefully selected the name of the saint that will be their confirmation name. I always enjoy that part of the celebration where we hear the names and when several will explain the selection of the saint when prompted by the Bishop.

Tonight I was asked to spend some time with the class preparing them for confession; doing an examination of conscience. It was quite an awesome experience to prepare them, escort them to church and witness them, one by one, going to confession, praying in the church, preparing for their confirmation. What a wonderful way to prepare for their confirmation then to be purged from sin and absolved through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Please pray for our young adults as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Thursday night.
