On this quiet Friday in early September there is just a hint; a hint of good things coming looking forward. Of course I have no crystal ball; but generally I'm excited to look forward. It is far from unusual for a September 3rd to be wicked hot and humid. Many times for us early-mid September can be just as uncomfortable as August or July. I can remember those first days back home after Katrina in September 2005 because it was brutal hot and no one around here had air conditioning, without a generator that is, until late September.
But tonight we are enjoying a touch of comfortable; it's not cool but low humidity and a nice breeze is such a departure from the seemingly endless hot and humid days of summer. And down the road a bit they are playing high school football; week 1. It is always exciting to see the kids from all the area schools enjoying that fall rite of passage that is high school football. And tomorrow we get to settle in and exercise our annual fall love-hate-love relationship with our LSU Tigers. Us Tiger fans are always disappointed in anything less than a 10 + win season and a major bowl win. But the thought of just getting started is enough to make us happy tonight.
The opportunity to reflect tonight and look forward to things I enjoy is quite a respite from a rough week. Work was a bear and many difficult problems had me off routine. Ministry was amazing but very demanding this week. As a ordained minister I experienced a few firsts including an incredibly sad loss for a young family. But looking forward I'm excited for the chance to be involved in many great ministry opportunities in the weeks ahead. Of course every hour of every day and engaging everyone God places in our life is a chance to do ministry.
So there is just a hint, a nice hint, of those wonderful things to come as we move into that more enjoyable time of year.
