Today is the anniversary of the death of Mother Teresa. Hard to beleive it has been 13 years. I remember when word reached me that she had passed and marveled at how simple the announcement was. You see just a few days earlier the world was captivated by the death of Princess Diana. Of course her death was sudden and completely unexpected. Mother Teresa's was not and she was 87 years old.
The anniversary of her death is also the day the Church has assigned for her liturgical rememberance. If today were not a Sunday the Church would be able to celebrate an optional memorial of Mother Teresa because she is beatified. This is one step shy of canonization so Mother Teresa is not yet an officially recognized saint in the Catholic Church. Because of her beatification she is considered a "blessed" so her title is Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.
The nun continues to inspire Catholics and peoples of faith in her example of working with the poor and marginalized, the sickest of the sick and the dying and her stadfast support for all pro-life activities always declaring publicly the evils of abortion.
On this the 13th anniversary of her death may we all remember her in a special way.
Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us.
