Balancing acts, keeping pace and taking care of business

This has been a hectic few days and will remain so for quite some time. For some reason, August has brought a buzz of action. Often I remind myself, and you my loyal readers, that for me, as a Permanent Deacon, it's not what you do but who you are. Lately, who I am is busy. The busy requires me to keep all of this in perspective; after all, my daughter has been gone for 8 weeks and just completed her first week back home and my wife has returned for a week as well from the bedside of her mom. And we rejoice that mom is doing great after her life-threatening scare. So I keep these things before me and I seek balance.

Everything is happening at once; work is busy(and that is a good thing), school is going back into session and for me that means our two diaconate classes. Both our 2010 and 2012 classes return to session on Saturday. I am happy to be a mentor to three men in the 2012 group and assist in the homiletics classes for our 2010 brothers. Needless to say, my Saturday's will be full over the next 4 months. All of our diaconate family will gather together on Tuesday, the 10th, to celebrate one of our great examples of diaconate service in the Feast of St. Lawrence.

Tonight I was able to continue to do one of the many things deacons are involved with; the prepartion of a young couple for their wedding. The wedding, which will occur in October, will be the first where I will officiate with the vows. It's kind of neat as the bride is a young lady I've known since she was a young girl; even taught her 8th grade CCD.

Tomorrow night I will preside at Benediction which brings to a close our parish day long Eucharistic Adoration. What joy it will be to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament on the Feast Day of the Transfiguration.

So with all this happening, tonight I took a solid hour to collect myself, to organize my notes and files and stuff I need to fulfill my ministries. And tonight, even at this late hour, I plan to take some time in prayer and reflection as I look forward, with great joy, to a very, very busy weekend.

Yes, the grass can wait! I'm taking care of business and keeping pace and balancing it all because God guides my steps.
