And the oil keeps coming

Just wanted to post a reminder for all who wander across this blog that we are still battling the BP oil disaster. In fact today is something like day 76. What prompted me to revisit this subject is the very alarming news that the oil may have reached Lake Pontchartrain. For those not familiar with this area, Lake Pontchartrain is a large body of water that seperates the southshore (New Orleans, Jefferson Parish) from the Northshore (Slidell, Mandeville and more). The civil parish(county) that I live in, St. Tammany, would be the next parish to have oil on it's shores if these initial reports are true. Just yesterday oil was spotted in what is known as the Rigolets Pass and today tar balls were reported south of Slidell.

Lake Pontchartrain, over these past 76 days, has escaped the oil and therefore fishing and crabbing, as well as recreational boating and sailing has been full steam ahead. If this area is added to the many other areas closed for fishing, the economic impact will be devastating.

Every day we should try to remember this entire situation in prayers. The entire area, not to mention our neighbors in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, has been so adversly impacted. Like Katrina, we can take hope in the generous, prayerful response from so many people.

We continue to pray in church for God's will to be done and we continue to seek the intercession of Our Lady of Prompt Succor. Again tonight I ask all reading this to join us in prayer for a speed end to this monumental environmental and fiancial disaster.
