It's always nice to feel a little appreciation. It's part of our human nature to want to feel appreciated; that others recognize who you are and what you do. I guess this is something I've never really pondered but it seems to be true for everybody; even Catholic clergy.
Tonight one of our local Knights of Columbus Council's, I believe it is 3061 from Covington, La., invited Priests, Deacons, Religious and seminarians for dinner, fellowship and some much financial support. This Council has been hosting this dinner for almost 25 years and since my ordination, in 2008, I have been one of the invited guests.
It is awesome that an organization like the Knights thinks so highly of the efforts of local clergy that they pull out all the stops for this event. The men of this local council make sure all are treated to a hearty meal, refreshments and dessert along with the fellowship of other ordained and religious, as well as fellowship with over 50 members of the local K C Council. During a formal presentation, the Knights offer financial support to those in formation, the Church parishes that the KC Council serves, the local boys high school, St. Paul's, the local seminary, St. Joseph Seminary College, and the religious orders of Carmelites, Teresians and Daughters of Providence.
Perhaps by sharing this brief article from my experience tonight, other church groups, K C Councils, and others will be inspired to conduct similar clergy appreciation events!
Thank You Clergy & Religious.
And thank you Knights of Columbus!
