Fire within; heat or light; be light

We all have something deep within us.  I will call it our "fire".  What we choose to do with this "fire" is up to us.  We can use this "fire" to provide heat or we can provide light.  Heat, in and of itself, is not a bad thing.  But tonight I'm talking about the heat that causes all of us, from time to time, to be something less than kind and even for a few of us, give in to hate.  I'm talking about the fire that immediately makes us respond with fury, to rush to social media to make damn sure the world knows our opinion, knows what side we come down on, knows our breaking points, knows what really sets us off.  However, we can choose instead to be less heat and a lot more light.  First of all, we must know that cooperating with God's grace, we are called to be light.  We must, as Scripture says, let our light shine before men so they may see your good works and give glory to God the Father in Heaven!  Using your "fire" as light will help spread the love that we are called to be; the love that mirrors the fact that God is Love.  And then we are called to be love to one another for as the Apostle says, how can we say we love God and hate our brother; if we do, Scripture is clear: we are a liar.  Our light can and should reflect the love that is God.

The degree of heat that generates the kind of hate, and racism and violence so evident lately is not of God.  It is a complete and total rejection of God.  And for our part, we use our light to reject this hate, to speak up when measured, to be a total witness in our everyday life and spread the love that comes from God and God alone.

Think about the gift of our "fire" and contemplate in this difficult times, am I heat or am I light.

Be light!
