Rite of Election; here come the new Catholics for Easter 2017

Yesterday Archbishop Aymond posted this on his Facebook page:

Today we celebrated the Rite of Election at St. Joseph Church for our Archdiocese. Those preparing to enter the Catholic Church at Easter are welcomed be me and prayed for by our family of faith. The catechumens are those who have not been baptized. At the Easter Vigil they will celebrate baptism, confirmation and Eucharist. In today's celebration they became the ELECT, those called and chosen by God. Those baptized in other Christian churches are preparing to make a profession of faith in the Catholic Church and celebrate confirmation and Eucharist. Over 350 people will join the Catholic Church in this archdiocese at Easter. Please pray for them as they enter this Lenten time of prayer leading to the Easter Vigil.

Think about it; one diocese here in New Orleans is preparing to welcome more that 350 new Catholics.  There will be again almost 100,000 new Catholics in the USA come Easter Vigil.

No one will focus on this because the juicy narrative is the Catholic Church is old and out of touch.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Just last year the church broke through another milestone in achieving 1.3 billion members.  Now numbers alone is far from the whole story about why the Catholic Church can never fail.  But these reports are indeed encouraging a sign of great hope!
