Catholic Politicians; the gift that keeps on giving

So last night I took to these pages to decry the idiotic anti-Catholic statements of one Nancy Pelosi.  She has a pretty long and well documented history of misrepresenting the Catholic faith.  I mentioned in that post that I see foolishness on both sides of the aisle when it comes to Catholic politicians.  While certainly not rising to the level of heresy, like Nancy Pelosi did again just the other day, now we have died in the wool Republican Rick Santorum, who is indeed Catholic, taking on the Pope.  Basically, Santorum is upset with the soon to be released papal document on climate change.  I saw this meme today and had to laugh:



Yep, the Pope indeed has a science background and of course, we are yet to know what will be contained in this long awaited document.  Not only did Santorum make the ridiculous statement above, he also was quick to point out, as a loyal faithful Catholic mind you, that the Church has gotten science wrong before.  I guess he was harkening back to Galileo.  Now Santorum will get a pass by many Catholics because he is spot on with the Church in matters of Life, steadfastly Pro-Life and supportive of Catholic teaching on marriage.  But this appears to be a political stunt and well thought out.  In other words, the vast majority of Catholic types who will vote for Santorum will be just fine with his criticisms of the Pope because it's all about climate change. 

You see this is the problem, as I see it, with Catholic politicians who, for whatever reason, go out of the way to stake out a contrary position from the Church.  Even if you believe climate change does not reach the offense as egregious as abortion, same-sex so called marriage(and it does not), what good can possibly come from said Catholic politician going after the Pope?

Is it not possible for a Catholic politician to show in word and deed that he/she is indeed Catholic??
