Local priests to gather for convocation and focus on being better preachers

Almost 200 priests will all take part in the two-day convocation kicked-off with a “State of the Archdiocese” address from Archbishop Aymond and then the floor will essentially be turned over to two Dominican priests, fittingly the Order of Preachers, to speak on various subjects to help each priest become a better homilist.
“These days together as priests are sacred since they give us an opportunity to pray together for those to whom we minister, have valuable input regarding our preaching ministry and share fellowship,” says Archbishop Aymond. “We have a strong fraternity among our priests and such convocations strengthen that bond.”
Dominican Father David Caron, the recently appointed Director of Evangelization for the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and Dominican Father Gregory Heille will lead give several presentations that build on one another starting with creating a vision of preaching to practical application to even preparing each priest for the coming weekend.
“Our ministry in preaching is at the very heart of our vocation as priests,” says the archbishop. “No matter our age, we can always use new ideas and examine how we carry out this ministry.”
