An important part of the 1st Gospel in the Palm Sunday liturgy is the colt that Jesus instructs his followers to untie and borrow. It is a colt that never before carried a rider. The colt, of course, is a member of the "donkey family".
The young colt, apparently impressed that the people lined their cloaks on the road and waved palm branches mistakenly thought all the fuss was for him. On the day after he provided a ride for Jesus, he thought he would return to town and bask in more glory. He walked the route taken the day before; nothing. He went to the well in town; nothing. Finally he went to the town square where people where out in droves; still, nothing.
Confused the colt returned home and relayed the story to his mother. She said to her young one, I can explain everything.
Yesterday you rode the Master on your back; you were a grand donkey!
Today, you strode about without Him; that just makes you an ordinary ass.
Moral of the story; the more we try to do, or the more we try to be, without Him; we are just an ordinary ass!
Don't be an ass!!
