Getty ImagesNFL coaches put in such insane hours that it's probably not much of a stretch to say that, for most guys, there are two things in their life: family and football. Things are not going well for Sean Payton on either front.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Payton, already suspended by the NFL for a year, has filed for divorce from his wife. Here are some details, if you're interested, via Ryan Jones of the Times-Picayune:The petition lists the grounds for divorce as "discord or conflict of personalities between Petitioner and Respondent that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation."The aforementioned year-long suspension will cost Payton about $5.8 million in salary, as well as keep him away from the game for a year, which means that he won't be able to see or talk to countless friends and co-workers. Football is all Payton has ever done, going right into coaching after a brief playing career. That's been taken away from him.
The filings indicate that Payton, who has been suspended for the 2012 season by the NFL, has already moved out of his Westlake, Texas, home in the Dallas suburbs, where he lived with Beth Payton and their two children.
And now, the trauma of a divorce? How lonely can one man feel? I can't imagine what the guy's going through here. Is there anything else you'd like to throw at Sean Payton, universe? I don't think he's been audited recently. Maybe someone could shoot poison darts at his prostate. Maybe someone could steal his Super Bowl ring and sell it to Chum on "Pawn Stars."
All this misfortune striking one guy sort of makes me want to root for the Saints to win the Super Bowl. And I'd consider doing just that, if I knew for sure that that missing out on a Super Bowl season wouldn't just depress the guy further.
