LSU 10-0 and still #1

LSU started very slow tonight and looked flat on defense before they put it all together to record a 42-9 victory over Western Kentucky.  This one should have been easy from jump street but last weeks effort took a lot out of both LSU and Alabama, as evidenced by Bama's sluggish win over hapless Mississippi State.

LSU again did it with defense including a great goal-line stand and a well timed turnover.  LSU also saw the first start of the year by QB Jordan Jefferson who was efficient in both passing and running the offense.  But a lot of us LSU fans are a little surprised at the start and length of time Jefferson played.  Jarrett Lee did get into the game and lead the Tigers on a scoring drive capped off by a crisp TD pass.  We all know how tough a game Lee had against the Red Menance but he is largely responsible for the first 8 wins of these now historic 10.

LSU sits at 10-0; a feat they did not even accomplish in winning national football championships in 2003 and 2007.  Make no mistake, this year will most probably take an undefeated season.  Oklahoma State, elevated to the #2 spot last week did nothing to lose ground with a phenomenal 66-6 win over Texas Tech.  But today, two undefeated west coast teams, Stanford and Boise St., both lost.  In Boise's case all I can say is thank goodness.  Even if they would have gone 12-0 this is such a far inferior schedule to almost all the remaining Top 10 teams.  And Stanford just suffered through an old fashioned butt-whipping by Oregon, who LSU beat in the kickoff classic to this season.

I still contend that LSU and Bama are the two best teams in the country although Oklahoma State made quite the impression today.  I always thought Stanford and Bosie, especially Bosie, were pretenders not contenders.  Oregon is better than both of these.  Watch out for Oklahoma and, hang on, Arkansas.

Big LSU alert:  Arkansas awaits the weekend of Thanksgiving.  We have only last year and the 2007 championship year to recall what the Hogs can do late in the year.  Make no mistake, Arkansas will require LSU's best effort; the same type of effort they were prepared for when beating Alabama last week.  We must watch out for Arkansas.

But tonight, celebrate LSU at 10-0.  Another amazing record in the every year Les Miles has been here reality.  My, we Tiger fans can sure count lately on a slew of victories, a bowl game and a chance at the national title!

Geaux LSU Tigers!
