Yes, I've made it to Rosaryville where we've all met up with the class of aspirants in our diaconate community. Before I retire for the evening I just wanted to share that we introduced silence and peace as prayerful contemplation before bed and rising early in the morning to start the day.
Ironically me, along with the two brother Deacons presenting the retreat were struck by how in these days of preparation, we were met with all the nosie and clatter of a busy life that seems to want to choke out any chance of hearing God. For a couple of us it was cares and worries on the job; for the other a series of things breaking down at this seemingly most inopportune time. Again we shared how we each faced our own difficulties just getting here: traffic, distractions, the Saints game in town and the chaos of back to school week.
Following A Simple Path we must begin with the fruit of silence is prayer. We almost have to force ourselves if you will to be silent. To listen for God in the quiet. To be present to Him as He is always present to us.
Somehow, in our hecticness, the busy, the clutter and the chaotic, we too know that God is there; that He is speaking to us that He comes to us.
So my prayer tonight is that we can strive for those elusive yet precious periods of silence and that we both speak to and listen to God. And that we remain aware of Him always; even in the not so quiet.
And if you could, join in praying with me for a spiritually satisfying weekend retreat for our 2015 Aspirants!
