A Saint from the Council of Ephesus

St. Rusticus of Narbonne

 Feast Day October 26
Died: 462

Bishop of Narbonne. Born at Narbonne or Marseille, in Gaul, he was the son of Bishop Bonosus and became a gifted preacher in Rome before entering the monastic life at Lerins, France. In 427, he was named Bishop of Narbonne, enduring much upheaval in his diocese owing to the spread of Arianism and the advance of the Germanic tribes which were then besieging parts of Gaul. He asked to be permitted to resign, but Pope Leo I the Great convinced him to remain. He thus took part in the Council of Epesus which condemned Nestorianism. He also built the cathedrall at Narbonne.
