It just get's harder not easier

Wendy and I have done a great job when it comes to visiting our North Carolina family, especially when it's time to say see you later.  Somehow I've noticed that it's not easier.  You know we have now been blessed with not just #1 grandson Calvin, now all of 3 years old, and #1 granddaughter Katelyn, already 2 months old.

On this Thursday night, when the rest of America is probably watching the 2015 debut of NFL football, Wendy and I are packing up for the long ride home tomorrow at o-dark thirty.  Going home has always been easy; tonight, I'm just not so sure.

The older Calvin gets it just seems the more fun we have.  He certainly has come to know that Nona & Pops in town means one adventure after another.  We take road trips to museums, petting farms, swimming, haircuts, lunch with Calvin, shopping trips, you name it.  He is so delightful and enjoyable on all of these outings.  And when we get back to the house we also now have Katelyn waiting for us.  Now I like to hold her but I only do well in very short stints.  Wendy, on the other hand, could sit in the reclining/rocker and hold her for hours at a time.  She could not be more precious, adorable, beautiful, and more!

You know a father is always a father, no matter what life deals you.  And when your children have children and you start embracing grand parenting, you still are a father.  I could not be more proud and happy that my son James(Jimmy to me always) has built a great life for himself and his family in such a beautiful place.  He has a wonderful wife Sara, who has to be wonderful to keep Jimmy happy, and these two precious gifts in Calvin and Katelyn.

So the game plan is a nice night's sleep, early to rise and on the road no later than 6:30.  It's a long drive, about 11.5 hours without stops but 14 the way Wendy and I drive.  But home we are headed, albeit reluctantly as we are left with our memories of this and all the previous trips to be with our grand children.

Thanks be to God for the gift of Calvin and Katelyn, family and all these precious moments and memories.

Posting resumes late tomorrow night.
