A quiet October afternoon, I believe it may have been a Monday, babysitting my son James who was about 19 months old, and the breaking news came on NBC. And it looked something like this:

What a shock to the world and to Catholics everywhere. The Church just elected a pope and he was not from Italy. I could not get enough of the breaking news. Who expected that we would have 27 years of a great and enduring papacy?

I thank God every day for the gift of this beloved Pope and Saint!
