SPOKANE, Wash. — The president of Gonzaga University has decided to approve the campus Knights of Columbus chapter as a sponsored organization. Tuesday's action reverses a decision made last month.
The decision means the Catholic organization can use the university's name, raise money on campus, use campus facilities and recruit members.
Gonzaga President Thayne McCullough began a review of the policy earlier this month, after student activities officials decided the Knights of Columbus did not qualify for club status since it excluded women and non-Catholics.
That earlier decision was criticized by some alumni and parents of current students, who called it hypocritical.
