New Orleans Saints with a big win on New Year's Day

Did you catch the Saints today?  Another amazing performance by the most amazing offense ever.  Drew Brees, his entire talented stable of wide receivers, Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles(both of these guys broke NFL records today) and Chris Ivory fired on all cylinders in blowing out Carolina 45-17.  Even the defense, suspect for a while, came up big later in the game.  The victory gave the Saints the same identical record of that wonderful Super Bowl year, 13-3.  This year that great record was not enough to earn a first round bye and the Saints will be playing in the Superdome this weekend.  Looks like the Saints will avoid a 3rd matchup against Atlanta and instead will play Detroit, a team the Saints handled easily on Sunday night football a few weeks back.

The Saints, if they continue to play the type of football we all have witnessed these past 8 weeks, should be fine against the Lions.  Do not take them for granted.  All I need to do as a reminder for my Saints is say these words: Seattle Seahawks.  Yes, just a year ago, the much more talented Saints allowed the poor Seahawks to win.  Hopefully, never again.

This Saint team has been very good even since winning the Super Bowl just 2 years ago.  Since that memorable night in Miami, the Saints are 24-9 but are still waiting for their first post-season win since Super Bowl 44.  Again, if they will play like they are playing, that will happen.

Today the Saints helped Drew Brees keep his passing record as he outperformed Tom Brady today.  And then TE Jimmy Graham got his record and Darren Sproles got his late in the game.  This game was such a blowout we even saw Saints backup Chase Daniel play and complete some passes.

So the seeding in the NFC is like this:

1.  Green Bay 2. San Francisco 3. New Orleans 4. whoever wins the NFC east among the sad Giants and the evil Dallas Cowboys 5. Atlanta 6. Detroit.

So 1 and 2 are off, 3 plays 6 and 4 plays 5.  Therefore, Saints vs. Lions.

But for today, New Years Day 2012, we celebrate the New Orleans Saints victory, their 13th of the year.  And all is good for now in Saints nation.  Geaux Saints!
