Mid-week finds me battling the summer grass and the onslaught of these August days and nights when it stays hot and humid 24 hours a day. Tonight I cut grass til dark and the heat index was still around 98 at 8 p.m. But that's just weather talk; it could be worse.
Early August brings new diaconate duties as we start our fall classes for both the 2012 and 2015 formation groups. Classes this year for our 2015 group will include Thursday night sessions so we begin tomorrow night. They will be introduced to an in depth spirituality component and I can affirm for them how important this will be. Our 2012 group still has a week before they begin.
I'm very much looking forward to Friday night and a return to presiding at Most Holy Trinity's first Friday Benediction. I was privileged to preside at Benediction just last week for the diaconate retreat and am happy that I'll be at it again Friday. That moment when Jesus, in the monstrance, blesses those in the Church as I'm privileged to hold the monstrance is spiritual and overwhelming! Before I came to Most Holy Trinity the parish did not have a formal Benediction and many have responded generously. A few of them have arranged a special wine and cheese gathering after Benediction concludes. I'm looking forward to the fellowship of those who, like me, long to adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
A baptism awaits on Saturday and my Sunday Mass ministry will follow.
Next week will be no different as everything from prison ministry, the deacons gathering for the Feast of St. Lawrence and formation classes await.
And I remind myself, and you the reader, it's still not what you do but who you are!
