If you follow my blog you know I've been following this YouTube phenom Lizzie Estella Reezay who was, for the most part, a typical young girl high school/college age blogger with typical stuff. But Lizzie got the attention of the faith community, while retaining her cultural contacts, when her subject matter changed to her inquiring journey towards Catholicism. A fairly devout and strongly catechized member of Church of Christ, Lizzie responded to a higher calling, the calling of the Truth, to explore Catholicism. She inquired appropriately, self-studied, did research at levels most Catholics just don't/won't do. Lizzie discovered that the early church was indeed Catholic and then realized that the church established by Christ is Catholic and the Church that has the fullness of Truth, the Sacraments, etc. is the Catholic Church. She completed her journey "home" this Easter when she was fully received into the Church.
I'm posting this video for a couple of reasons. Lizzie makes no secret of her bipolar disease and she addresses that in the context of all she has been through. She also demonstrates the depth of her conversion to Catholicism when she explains the personal hell she must go through with the closest members of her family, all devout C of C members. Despite it all, she knows that God has called her to be Catholic.
Hers is a powerful story and she has a natural appeal that will attract many, especially young adults, teens and even folks as old as I am. However, I pray she takes it slow because occasionally she gets some details about Catholicism wrong or she just expresses them in ways that need to be cleaned up. Also, we all need to realize she is just one of us, working out her salvation in the Church Jesus established and she is not a canonized Saint. It appears she is being bombarded with interview requests and requests to speak, etc. I hope she takes it slow and never quits trying to learn more, grow in faith and grow even closer to her Savior.
Here she tries to explain it all; enjoy:
