I know the LSU season still has 8 games left and I could not be more confident of my headline above; this year's version of LSU football is all crap! And I write this long before the LSU/Syracuse game is over; I mean LSU might win and I still firmly believe this season is toast. Pure garbage. And let me tell you, the damn near half empty stadium speaks volumes too; most LSU fans probably sense that all is lost for 2017.
This is a complete failure from the LSU AD, the ridiculous hiring of Ed Ogeron as head coach and something seriously amiss when year after year, college football experts claim the LSU recruits are top notch and then they play like this.
There are two very bad signs for LSU tonight. The first is the inability to look superior to a Syracuse team inside what was once proudly known as death valley. The second, is the complete butt whipping Georgia is putting on Mississippi State; I guess the cowbells are not all that; they were just powerfully better than sad LSU.
LSU seems to have no power, spotty athleticism, and confusing schemes at both offensive and defensive lines. Man for two weeks now they both have been outplayed and outmanned; physically dominated and exhausted. What the heck happened to all these college expert anointed blue chip players? Offensively there is nothing in sync; Guice is out, the receivers are not what receivers used to be at LSU and the QB is pedestrian at best. Defensively, they can't stop anyone. The D line, like their own offensive line counterparts, gets pushed around, they are always out of position and do we even have linebackers this year. And like the WR position, the DB's are good, but not LSU tradition good.
Coaching? Most of the LSU faithful wanted the lovable Coach O to be head coach. Well good luck, you got him. Now I like the coach; can he lead an entire program? Nothing in his history pointed to that reality. The assistants seemed to be strong; Canada and Aranda, what the heck is going on with these guys? Coaching is flat out sad.
So settle in for a long awful season Tiger fans; after tonight(now I know LSU will actually win this game) I am willing to predict a best case scenario of 6-6. Tonight is win # 3, they play Troy next week(presumably a win) and then they 7 SEC contests. Can LSU beat Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, and the rest? I will give them the benefit of the doubt that based on the beleaguered conditions at Florida and Ole Miss, they might win 2 SEC games. I am not confident of any one else.
When is the last time LSU did not have a winning record, when is the last time LSU missed out on a bowl? The answer to the second question is 1999. Not since the dawn of the 21st century has LSU not been to a bowl. And 1999 is also the correct answer for last time LSU had a losing season.
Someone more intelligent than yours truly needs to give us more in depth analysis about why a great college football program; an awesome football tradition, a way of life in Louisiana, is in such trouble and turmoil?
Finally, I hope readers will understand I am an avid LSU supporter, I love the Tigers especially on the gridiron. But questioning the unanswerable does not make a fan a bad fan. LSU should be far better than the product on the field.
Always, Geaux Tigers; but it will be a long year.
