After a little mote than a week off of traveling, grandparenting, and otherwise relaxing I am off to work today as a bank manager. Why do I tell you this? As a reminder about the ministry of the Permanent Deacon! What? Yes indeed. Please remember when you see your Permanent Deacon assisting at the altar or leading Bible Study or meeting with a couple in the evening in preparation for their wedding or working in the community at foodbanks, prisons, hospitals, they also have many other everyday responsibilities. For most of us, the not yet retired group, we go to work, yes we almost all have a secular job. And we take time off, vacations, family time, we travel. We also cut the grass, run errands, trying all the time to be loving and attentive fathers, sons, dads and grandfathers. Yes indeed, all these things make up who we are and therefore are integral parts of who the Permanent Deacon is!
Now since I've been home from my glorious time with the grandchildren I have managed to lead Bible Study, attend to my ministry visit in prison and plan my homily for this coming weekend. But today I will immerse myself in all things bank since I've really been off since Labor Day weekend. So I'll say my prayers today, put in a good day at work and then head off to our local Knights of Columbus meeting today. I love being a Permanent Deacon!
