Former NFL RB Warrick Dunn, a Baton Rouge native, reacts to Sunday's police shooting

Former Florida State and Catholic High football star Warrick Dunn, whose late mother was a Baton Rouge police officer killed in the line of duty, reacted on Facebook to Sunday's shootings.
Betty Smothers, Dunn's mother, was killed in a robbery attempt in 1993. Dunn, 18 at the time, was left to raise five younger siblings.
"My heart breaks for the the families and law enforcement officers that have lost love ones," Dunn said in a statement released on his Facebook page Sunday night.
"I have been in similar shoes - it will change their lives and leave them all reeling with questions for years to come. It is a shame - so many officers who are out there on the front lines have tremendous heart for what they do. These acts of violence don't solve anything and if my voice can add to the movement to stop it - then I'd consider that a good thing. I struggle emotionally to understand why and how police officers are being targeted in the way they are."
Dunn was drafted in 1997 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after playing college ball at Florida State. He played five seasons with the Buccaneers before moving to play for the Atlanta Falcons. He went back to Tampa Bay in 2008 for his final NFL season.
