Archbishop Gregory Aymond made time in his incredibly busy schedule to visit the men at Rayburn Correctional. After a 90 minute drive from his residence to the prison facility he was ready to greet the men then immediately begin hearing confessions. After a few moments to vest, the Archbishop offered Mass with a beautiful homily full of hope and promise! After Mass he spoke to the men as a group then met with many of them individually. It was a great night and the generosity of the Archbishop made a lasting impression on the men. And then it was a 90 minute ride home.
We were supported tonight by the Archdiocesan director of prison ministry and the lay volunteers from both Mary Queen of Peace Parish, Mandeville La and Annunciation Church in Bogalusa LA.
We don't get to have an Archbishop at the prison very often; each visit is so special. Tonight did not disappoint.
I want to thank Archbishop Aymond for his generous gift of time and of self and the wonderful message he shared with the men.
And we will be right back at it next week with our regular visits with memories of tonight still fresh in our minds and hearts!
