Joan of Arc parade celebrates Twelfth Night
Event commemorates patron saint’s 601st birthday
The parade, which honors New Orleans' French history, begins at Bienville Park, at Conti Street and Decatur Street, and ends in Dutch Alley, across from the golden Joan of Arc statue, at St. Philip Street and Decatur Street.
The fifth annual Krewe of Joan of Arc parades on Joan of Arc’s birthday. The Krewe de Jeanne d’Arc first paraded in 2009 on Twelfth Night to mark the birthday of New Orleans’ unofficial patron saint. This marks 601st birthday of Joan of Arc.
The parade will include several people portraying Joan on horseback, krewe members of all ages in medieval costumes, handmade and unique throws, stilt walkers, monks and processional banners, large-scale puppets and two dancing troupes moving to medieval music.
This year’s parade will feature many new additions and exciting festivities including the following photo ops:
• 5:15 p.m. – Krewe de Jeanne d'Arc meets the public at Bienville Park
• 5:30 p.m. – Fire dancer performs in front of Bienville statue
• 5:45 p.m. – Sieur de Bienville presents City Proclamation and Parade begins
• 6:05 p.m. – A toast from the Historic New Orleans Collection at Williams Research Center, 401 Chartres St.
• 6:20 p.m. – Blessing of Joan’s sword at St. Louis Cathedral
