Friday Night Reflection

With all the reading and blogging and posting going on all week about the HHS mandate, President Obama vs the Catholic Church, Komen and Planned Parenthood on again/off again/who knows the truth not to mention all the foolishness about this years Presidential election; I want to reflect on the week that was for the Deacon and explore some spirituality.

As Deacon my hectic pace did not slow down at all and that's ok.  At my local parish we are conducting a wonderful adult faith formation program based on the videos of Fr. Robert Barron's award winning documentary called the Catholicism Project.  Every week, we view a 45-50 minute video, then break into small groups and discuss the topics covered in the video.  We have been blessed to have a healthy turnout of parishioners and an occasional visitor.

Another important event this week was an opportunity to meet with and train altar servers.  We had a great turnout with 25 of the 32 servers present.  We simply wanted to make sure all the servers are comfortable with the new missal, the proper movements and postures and always knowing what to expect at Mass.  The strong turnout, along with many parents, is very encouraging.

Tonight was an important night as I have been championing 1st Friday Adoration and Benediction.  It was exactly a year ago that I began the evening Benediction and have been so happy with the progress being made; until recently.  The last few months have brought an unexpected drop off in turnout with January having only 4 adorers present for Benediction.  Tonight, however, we turned a corner with 30 adorers present.  And reports of the Adoration turnout throughout the day showed good numbers for each hour of the day.  We easily had well in excess of 100 adorers stop by MHT and worship the Eucharstic Lord!

And tonight, I'm relaxing as I gear up for another important weekend with several Masses, our PSR events and oh yea, there is some kind of big football game to watch.

For the many ways to serve one another; thanks be to God!
