Well just like last year the Saints can't get the job done on the road and end the season short of returning to a Super Bowl. It was a great game if you would have been a neutral football fan. Lots of 4th qaurter excitement with 4 lead changes in 4 minutes. WOW. But the Saints defense, stout most of the night, failed miserably at the end and appeared to be in curious coverages for a team trying to win.
The Saints game started off horribly with uncharacteristic turnovers, failure to score on the opening 75-plus yard drive, loosing Pierre Thomas to injury, along with Jimmy Graham for a few series, the worst play all year by the offensive line; I could go on.
Despite all of this, not once but twice, the Saints came back and took leads, the last time with just about a minute 30 and change. But to no avail; the Saints allowed SF to score and win they did. Here is an amazing stat: the Saints are 45 years old and have yet to win a road playoff game. Super Bowls are neutral fields so don't throw that one back at me.
Bottom line; Saints get to come back to New Orleans Monday and pack their bags and lockers for another season. It was a good year. It has been a great 3 year run. And no matter what; the Saints have a Super Bowl trophy and many do not. We got caught sleeping last year in the playoffs but not so much this year. The Lions victory was sweet and this was just a great old fashioned game that the Saints lost. I would suggest no other NFL team has had a better run over these 3 years than the New Orleans Saints. I just wonder how long does it really take to make it all the way back to the Super Bowl?
Wait til next year; or maybe year before last!
