Christmas is now over; let the Ordinary begin anew

With today's Feast of the Baptism of the Lord now behind us, the official Christmas season has come to an end.  In the morning, the liturgical cycle returns once again to the green of Ordinary Time.  Catholic Churches across the world are rushing to pack away the decorations and the nativity scenes for another year.  The beautiful figurines of the Holy Family, including the baby Jesus, along with shepherds, wise men and the animals are relegated to a storage facility, attic or basement of your neighborhood Catholic Church.

Was our Christmas season and celebration of the entire liturgical experience enough to sustain us as we move on first into Ordinary Time and soon the season of Lent?  What did we take away from these festive and holy days to help us today and tomorrow?  Did something from Scripture touch you or working on a special Christmas project move you?  My prayer tonight is that this most certainly did happen.

Ironically, due to circumstances far from my control, on this Monday night preparing to watch my LSU Tigers vs. Alabama, the Christmas decorations are still up around the house.  That should be remedied by end of week.  But we all can now officially declare Christmas is over!  Bring on ordinary time!
